2011 Melbourne Cup Results

Dunaden has won the 2011 Melbourne Cup by a pixel of a hair of a nose in a breathtaking photo finish. This was one of the narrowest wins in Melbourne Cup history, Red Cadeaux punters can feel legitimately hard done by that the finish wasn’t declared a dead heat. French Jockey Christophe Lemaire arrived just 24 hours before the race began after Dunaden’s original jockey, Craig Williams was unable to ride due to losing an appeal.

1st – Dunaden
2nd – Red Cadeaux
3rd – Lucas Cranach

4th – Americain
Last – Modun

Dunaden followed the same path to the Melbourne Cup History books as Americain did last year by winning the Geelong Cup in preparation for Australia’s premiere staying event.

Dunaden and Red Cadeaux finished 1-1/4 lengths in front of Germany’s Lucas Cranach, rounding out the trifecta coming in third and narrowly beating Americain, last years winner and this years favourite. Subscribers to my Free Tips Newsletter will have been happy as I listed Duneden at the top of the list of 5 main chances to win the Cup, along with Americain, Manighar, Fox Hunt and Tullamore.

Here is the how the rest of the field fared in the complete finishing order of the 151st Melbourne Cup.

Dunaden is so much fun to watch and he also gained record for himself. He is now known for his elite staying ability and I wish him all the best for the future. Maybe we’ll see him win the 2012 Melbourne Cup and go back to back like Archer, Rain Lover, Think Big and Makybe Diva, who knows?
