Racing Analyst Gerard Twomey casts his eye over the big meeting at Flemington.

With substantial rain forecast in Melbourne on Friday night and Saturday punters will be well advised to hone in on wet trackers at the Makybe Diva Stakes meeting at Flemington.

“In the Let’s Elope Stakes both Tonic and Believe ‘N Achieve represent value chances. In the Danehill Stakes, Soul reads well on his last start second to Golden Rose winner Toorak Toff, he won well on debut down the straight on affected ground and the 1200m looks ideal. Nicastro looks well placed in race 4, he will relish the likely good tempo set by Jungle Ruler and is crying out for 1400m.”

“Sydney visitor Danleigh is the obvious favourite in the Maybe Diva, he loves soft ground and having had two runs in from a spell his fitness could well be the telling factor. Vigor looks the likely leader with no obvious pacemaker in the race and he did win this last year. Heart Of dreams is fitter and will race in a forward position but from his wide barrier he may get caught wide in running. Keep an eye on the Lloyd Williams horse Alandi who will appreciate the soft going but a slow tempo will be against him.

“Top wet tracker Doubtful Jack resumes in the Bobbie Lewis and his clash with emerging superstar Love Conquers All provides the highlight of the meeting; I am expecting Doubtful Jack to measure up to Group One company this preparation.”

Twomey also offered some ideas for the Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick. “This race will become a real battle of tactics with no genuine speed in the race. Theseo should get an easy lead and now that he’s second up we can expect big improvement from him and he may be able to dictate terms. Metal Bender should get the box seat i behind Theseo, while Triple Honour will be charging home but the slow pace could work against him” said Twomey.

The 2010 AFL Finals are here, and the first week looks set to have some great games of footy. The Cats vs the Saints should be a great game to watch, the Dockers putting up a full team this time to take the Hawks, Pies vs the out of form dogs should be a cracker and finally the Swans look to end the Blues season in Sydney, but not at the SCG. I’m looking forward to most of these games.

The final round of the 2010 National Rugby League season is here and the finals are only a week away. The match of the round looks set to be Parramatta taking on New Zealand at home. As we settle in to the 2010/2011 season, we’re starting to see where the sides are at this year. We’re in for some great, close games this week, starting Friday night when equal placed Brisbane take on Wellington at home. I like the home odds here. In the next game, equal 2nd teams North Queensland and Adelaide will take each other on, and again I like the odds for Adelaide at home. Sydney FC should beat Central Coast and the last two games should be equally as exciting as the first two. It appears to be a great week for value bets, and I’ll be putting on a few multi’s to try and build the bank up a bit.

We’ve made it to the very last round of the home and away season in 2010. The final 8 has been decided and there’s not a whole lot of value in the market this week. That said, I don’t think the bookies are showing Adelaide enough credit for nearly toppling the Pies last week away from home. Their recent form has been reasonable, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Saints rested a few of their stars for the finals. It will be interesting to see if the Crows can stop Brownlow Medal chance Brendon Goddard, and if they do, will they be able to contain Leigh Montagna as well? Sydney have shortened considerably amidst rumours of Jonathon Brown being a late withdrawal, I would expect them to beat the Lions even with Brown in the side. I think Melbourne are value against the Kangaroos, who now have nothing really to play for. If the Demons can find the form that we saw several weeks ago, I think they’re in with a good chance to finish off the season with a win.
