Looking at the odds this week there’s not many value bets, most punters seem to think this round will be an easy one. Just like the previous two rounds I suppose
Who would have backed the Tigers to beat Adelaide?
There are a few games here which I think could be tough, and I’ll put in my two value bets for the week. They’re not specials, as I agree with most of the punters and I rarely bet on an under priced favourite.
Port Adelaide without Cornes will be a lesser side, but they are due for a win. I think the prices should be much closer than what they are now against a struggling Essendon, who did put up an excellent fight last week. I still don’t think they’re back to their best and Port can improve a lot from where they are now.
The other value bet would be Fremantle to beat Brisbane @ $2.30. Not much else would return any value this week, unless you’re feeling game and want to back Carlton in at $8. Can they pull off the same upset as Richmond last week? I highly doubt it. Unless Fevola kicks 15-20 goals, that is
Here are the current head to head odds.
World Cup fever is set to hit Australia on Thursday (Australian time) when the Socceroos play a friendly international against Greece in Melbourne. More than 90,000 fans are expected to attend the game. But not all fans will be barracking for the home side - Melbourne has the second largest Greek population outside of Athens.
Current betting on IASbet shows the home team Australia at 2.20* with Greece at 2.35 and the draw 2.25.
Socceroos coach Guus Hiddink has named Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka as Australia’s captain for the 2006 World Cup in Germany next month. The 30-year-old Viduka first captained the national team in the play-off win over Uruguay with regular captain Craig Moore sidelined because of injury.
Australia begins their World Cup campaign against Japan on June 12.
Betting on Australia’s first World Cup Finals game against Japan is already available with IASbet where the Socceroos are priced at 2.50, Japan 2.90 and the Draw 3.20.
With so much at stake, I don’t think the draw will happen. It would be nice to see us do well in the soccer, but I do have my doubts.
What an unpredictable week last week was. Freo toppled West Coast, Geelong lost to Melbourne who are finding some form, Richmond beat a struggling Essondon and the Kangaroos, with the help of the much talked about Thompson toppled the in-form Hawks.
Here we go with the current Head to Head odds:
Australia takes on New Zealand in the traditional Anzac Test match Suncorp Stadium. Australia will be fired up for revenge in this one after the Kiwis rewrote the record books with a 24-0 win the last time the sides met in the Tri Nations Series. Needless to say, the Kangaroos are a bit short for a straight out bet so the Margin Betting option is the way to go here.
The Aussies are easy favourites to take the win, paying 1.22. There’s a lot of value in NZ, paying over $4.
Bet on the Rugby
A Super weekend of Racing kicks off on Friday with the running of the Listed Wagga Gold Cup over 2000m while Harness Racing at Moonee Valley features the running of the $20,000 Cinderella Stakes as the Mares Triple Crown gets underway with Kiwi mare Molly Darling the one to beat.
Racing at the Gold Coast on Saturday provides the highlight with the Prime Minister’s Cup meeting. The major race on the card is the $300,000 G2 Norco Pauls Milk WFA Hollindale Stakes over 1800m with Australian Cup winner Roman Arch sure to appreciate the drop in class on his last couple.
Super Sunday at Morphetville will see the running of the SA Derby and the Goodwood Handicap. The Leon McDonald trained Gallant Guru looks capable of posting a hometown win. Grinding home at his last couple he has been looking for the Derby trip while the much travelled Testafiable for trainer Peter Moody looms as hardest to beat.
The Goodwood Handicap is as open as the Sydney heads with a host of chances. Plenty of value if you can find the winner of this race with Royal Ida for trainer Michael O’Leary the early favourite.
Don’t forget the Asian Mile Challenge continues on Sunday with the running of the third leg of the Challenge, The Champions Mile at Sha Tin.
