Congratulations to Rekindling, the low weight helped him to get across the line at the end, not to take anything away from Corey Brown’s ride. A really deserving winner and another exciting finish to Australia’s richest horse race. It’s interesting that the first four each came from inside barriers, Rekindling (4), Johannes Vermeer (3), Max Dynamite (2) and Big Duke (5). This year the first four paid a little over $50,000, twice more than last year. Now that would have been a nice collect!

So the Melbourne Cup has been and gone for another year. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get my tips or an odds comparison table on the website. No matter, there’s always next time. I hope you had a good time and enjoyed a win and a cold drink or two on the day.

Cheers,
Aussie Punter

Free Tips for Betting on the 2016 Melbourne Cup

Read my free tips for betting on the Melbourne Cup.
Some examples are:
Bet on horses who have proven their ability to race over long distances. IMO, the most important tip.
Don’t discount any horse without studying its form, the favourite only wins the Cup approximately 20% of the time.
Picking a Quinella, Trifecta or First Four will usually pay many hundreds or thousands of dollars.
Weight plays a big part in long races, often longshots with a light weight have a big advantage over the top weighted horses.

Watch the other distance races leading up to the Cup, especially the Caulfield Cup, Mackinnon Stakes, Cox Plate and Geelong Cup to see how the Cup horses finish off the race.

2016 Coolmore Classic Race Results

Review & Analysis of My Free Tips

My best bet for the Coolmore Classic, as posted in my Coolmore Classic Betting Tips blog post was the following:

Boxed trifecta with the numbers 7, 12, 1 & 6. Must show respect for the top weight Lucia Valentina and Peeping has had a good preparation for this race.

Those tips finished in places 1st, 2nd, 4th & 6th, not in my tipped order mind you: The first six numbers in order were: 6, 7, 3, 1, 9, 12.

I managed to get a winning bet on the quinella, the exacta paid almost 3 times the quinella since Peeping pipped Azkadellia by half a length.

It’s a shame that I didn’t tip Solicit who started as second favourite in the race, but you can’t tip them all and I’ll always choose value first if I’m trying to pick between a few closely rated horses.

Coolmore Classic Betting Tips

Number 7 – Azkadellia – With Brett Prebble on board, 11 starts with 5 wins and 6 placings, 3rd up this run and has won 3rd up in the past. Finished strongly last start and has had the perfect preparation here. If you can get odds over $5, I’d take those any day of the week.

Number 12 – Ghisoni – It’s hard to go past the favourite at the moment given her low weight here, she deserves to start as favourite even in this good field. She’s had 3 starts for 3 wins so far in her career and she should be improved from her last first up run. Very promising young filly who I’d like to see get a good start and lead from the front in the Coolmore.

My best bet: Boxed trifecta with the numbers 7, 12, 1 & 6. Must show respect for the top weight Lucia Valentina and Peeping has had a good preparation for this race.

Group 2 Racing at Rosehill this Saturday

Not only the Coolmore but also the following Group 2 races are on this Saturday at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse: Phar Lap Stakes, Ajax Stakes, Magic Night Stakes & Pago Pago Stakes. Plenty of keen punters will be having a flutter in Sydney this Sat and I’ll be one of them.

Good Luck, and Happy Punting!

Cheers,
Aussie Punter
