NAB Cup Week 2

Filed under: AFL — Australian Punter @ 7:50 am

Week 2 of the NAB Cup gets underway on Friday with the first of four quarterfinal matches. The Brisbane Lions who scored by a point at the GABBA last week against the Essendon Bombers will meet fellow opening round one point winners the Melbourne Demons at the Telstra Dome.

The action continues on Saturday with Neil Craig’s running midfielder’s looking to guide the Adelaide Crows to the Semi Finals of the NAB Cup when they take on a young Hawthorn Hawks outfit at Aurora Stadium in Launceston.

Saturday afternoon will see the two most impressive winners of last week’s opening round with the Fremantle Dockers hosting the Collingwood Magpies at Subiaco Oval. A tough assignment for the Pies who were red-hot early in last weeks opener against the Saint Kilda Saints while the Dockers put their best foot forward to smash the West Coast Eagles. Clearly the match of the round this weekend.

The second week of NAB Cup action concludes with five time preseason premiers the Kangaroos fielding a weakened lineup when they head to Cairns to take on the Geelong Cats on Saturday night. The Roos did it easily last week against the reigning day premiers Sydney but coach Dean Laidley has already declared his intention to rest about a dozen players, preferring instead to focus on the opening round of the season proper.

2006 NAB Cup - WINNER

Adelaide 3.50
Fremantle 4.50
Geelong 4.75
Melbourne 7.00
Kangaroos 10.00
Brisbane 11.00
Hawthorn 14.00
Collingwood 16.00
