2015 Australian Open Betting Odds

2015 is the year of the 103rd annual Australian Open tennis tournament, known around the world as the Grand Slam of Asia/Pacific. It’s the first Grand Slam of the calendar year, this year the Australian Open begins on January 19th and runs through the 1st of February.

It comes as no suprise that the current favourites to take out the Men’s and Women’s Singles titles are Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams, both are currently ranked world number 1, however there are plenty of other chances to take home the trophy.

After winning the Brisbane International recently, Maria Sharapova and four-time Australian Open winner Roger Federer go into the tournament in good form on Australian soil. Last years Aus Open Men’s title winner, Stanislas Wawrinka and runner up Rafael Nadal are both in with a chance and who knows how our young Aussies will perform on the big stage?

Novak Djokovic has praised the Aussie teenagers Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis saying that “they’re very talented players”. Kyrgios faces world number 42 Jerzy Janowicz tonight at the Sydney International in his first ATP match in over 3 months. He has been battling a back injury but I hope for his, and Australia’s sake that he’s fully recovered. I think he has a bright future and I’d love to see him go deep into this years Open.

The 2015 Australian Open begins on the 19th of January. Here are the current best fixed odds for the top rated players. The earlier you get your bets on, the better odds you’ll get. Keep an eye on how the players perform in the lead up to see if you can spot any value.

My tips for the Australian Open Winners

I think Federer is worth a bet at $7+, he is a true champion of the game and he can still play which he proved by winning the Brisbane International against world number 8 Milos Raonic from Canada on the 11th of Jan. Of course, there’s no doubt that Djokovic is the man to beat and he deserves to be favourite. If he’s on, it will be very hard to stop him but I don’t think he represents value at around $2.

As for the women, I like Serena Williams at close to $4 with Pinnacle Sports, I don’t think you’ll see better odds than that any time soon.

As usual, the best odds available from each online bookmaker are listed in bold text. You will notice that the most recent bookmaker I’ve added to the site, Pinnacle Sports has some amazing odds available. They’re an offshore company but they are one of the best at what they do. If you’re serious about getting the best odds, I’d suggest you open an account with them.

Carefully look at the difficulty of each players draw and check their history against their opponents. Some players play better against certain opponents for various reasons, a players’ ranking may not tell the full story. Look at the recent form of the player you’re considering betting on, are they improving their game or in the middle of a form slump? Have they recently been injured and if so, are they fully recovered?

Check the weather forecast and since the Australian Open is played in the middle of summer, it’s not unusual to be able to fry an egg on the court. Take note of players who are known to retire due to the heat, similarly, some players aren’t as affected by the heat as others. It also should be noted that there is an extreme heat policy in effect.

Lastly but most importantly, in any sport the odds don’t always accurately reflect the real chances of any player winning. If it were that simple, everyone would bet on the favourite each time and every punter in the world would be rich and happy, well, except for the bookmakers of course.

Good Luck, and Happy Punting!

2014 Australian Open Tennis Betting Odds

It’s that time of the year again, the first Grand Slam tennis tournament on the year, The Australian Open. Melbourne comes alive with tennis fever, starting on the 13th of January and running through until the 26th, Australia is placed under the spotlight on the world stage as the best tennis players from around the globe battle it out in the hot Aussie sun for a chance at a Grand Slam title.

Australia’s own Lleyton Hewitt is in rare form at the moment. The 32 year old hasn’t been hampered by injury in recent times, and after beating Nishikori in 40+ degree heat, Hewitt has shown that he still has what it takes to grind out a gritty win under trying conditions.

Other Aussies to watch are 21 year old Bernard Tomic, ranked 51 in the world at the moment he’s still improving and usually plays well during the Australian summer. Marinko Matosevic, ranked 61 and Matt Ebden, ranked 68.

It’s hard to see anyone stopping the defending Aussie Open champ Novak Djokovic who goes into the Open as well deserved favourite, however there is value in some of the other great players attending the tournament.

2012 Australian Open Betting Odds

The 2012 Australian Open started today and for the next two weeks we’re fortunate to have the world’s best tennis players congregating at Rod Laver Arena, slugging it out in the hot Aussie sun.

The world’s best tennis players including Australia’s own Sam Stosur who recently defeated Serena Williams in the US Open and golden boy Bernard Tonic, also from Queensland. Check out what the bookmakers have their chances rated at below where I compare the odds from 3 of my favourite online bookies.

Can Nadal who has been under a cloud of injury, Federer who is not the player he once was, or England’s Andy Murray with his new coach and former champion Ivan Lendl defeat current world number 1, Novak Djokovic? Time will tell. Will there be some upsets? Of course, there always is. It’s about time to grab a cold one, place your bets and turn the TV on. All that’s left to do is enjoy Australia’s biggest tennis event of the year.

Live Australian Open Tennis Match Betting

One of the great things about betting through online bookmakers is the fact you can bet on the match winner while the game is in progress! This is called live or in-play betting and all the bookmakers I have reviewed offer this feature over the telephone.

Don’t ask me why, but there’s a law against live betting over the internet, but it’s fine over the phone. The internet uses telephone lines too, and of course your mobile phone probably has reasonable internet connectivity, there’s really not much difference between the two. Nevertheless, I don’t make the laws, I’m just a regular punter so I’ll make the extra effort to pick up my phone if I see an opportunity for arbitrage.
