Mundine V Green Postponed

The fight of the year in Australia has yet again been postponed. It has been announced that the Anthony Mundine vs Danny Green fight, said to be the biggest non-title fight in Australian boxing history, has been moved to May. The fight will now be held at Aussie Stadium in Sydney on May 17 (Australia time).

Doctors told Green that he needed two weeks rest after sustaining nerve damage to his back during training last week. Mundine, who was not thrilled with the second postponement of the blockbuster fight, reacted to the news by saying, “Is he a warrior or a wuss?”

The Super Middleweight Middleweight bout features “The Man” Mundine is 25-3 (20 KO’s) and is arguably the more polished boxer of the two. He takes on “Green Machine” Green, who is 21-2 (19 KO’s). Green is as game as they come and, although he does not possess the pure athleticism of Mundine, his slugging prowess is undeniable.

Before betting was suspended, Mundine was a slight favourite.

Anthony Mundine vs Danny Green

Anthony Mundine will take on Danny Green in the biggest non-title fight in Australian boxing history, held at Aussie Stadium in Sydney on April 19. The slightly older Green is looking to pick up the mantel of Australia’s best boxer from Mundine after Kostya Tszyu’s imminent retirement.

Mundine is currently a slight favorite at a 1.75 chance with Green a 2.05 chance to win on IASbet. Leading up to the fight, Mundine has been training in the tiny aboriginal community in New South Wales where his father grew up. Mundine is also using the same ring as Aussie Russell Crow used in Cinderella Man (on loan); as well as dining on traditional meat such as goanna and turtle.

Green, who is following a slightly more traditional training regimen, was recently forced to move back to Perth (from Sydney) after the death of his infant niece. Green and his brother are very close, so he chose to be with the family during the lead up to the fight.

At the moment, I’d try and double my money and back Green for this, he’s a class boxer who’s had some bad luck in the past. It should be a good match, and the result will probably silence one of these blokes, but then again, they are boxers ;)
