Current Best 2008 AFL Brownlow Medal Betting Odds

We’re a third way through the 2008 season, and there’s still some great odds to be had if you want to get in early on the Brownlow betting market. Last years winner, Jimmy “Total Footballer” Bartel and gun teammate Gary Ablett Jnr. both have a very good chance of polling the top 3 votes this year with Geelong continuing their dominant form this year, and I’d say they’re worth the punt with odds over $3 for the place.

Here’s the top picks for both Win & Place betting (where available) from my 3 favourite Aussie online betting sites, with the best odds for that player indicated in bold.

Player Name (Team) IAS Bet
(Win / Place)
Sporting Bet
(Win Only)
Centre Bet
(Win / Place)
Adam Cooney (Bulldogs) $6.50 / $2.37 $7.50 $7 / $2.50
Sam Mitchell (Hawks) $7.50 / $2.62 $8 $7 / $2.50
Gary Ablett Jnr. (Cats) $10 / $3.25 $11 $9 / $3
Jimmy Bartel (Cats) $10 / $3.25 $8 $11 / $3.50
Brent Harvery (Kangas) $10 / $3.25 $11 $8 / $2.75
Matthew Richardson (Tigers) $10 / $3.25 $17 $11 / $3.50
Lance Franklin (Hawks) $12 / $3.75 $11 $11 / $3.50
Joel Corey (Cats) $12 / $3.75 $13 $13 / $4
Simon Black (Lions) $13 / $4 $17 $11 / $3.50
Chris Judd (Blues) $17 / $5 $11 $13 / $4

It looks like Sporting Bet currently has the best odds for the outright win, but unfortunately they don’t offer Place or Each Way odds. IAS Bet is leading the race for place betting, offering some very nice odds early in the season, and some extremely juicy odds for Chris Judd to poll the most votes this year. If he can get over his groin injury in the latter half of the season, odds of $17 is very, very good for someone who can dominate games from an umpires perspective.

‘07 Melb. Cup Betting Tips, and the Best Odds - Guaranteed!

Tips for the 2007 Melbourne Cup

Vlad Duric riding Master O’reilly certainly looks hard to beat, but there are a few others that I think have a fine chance of taking out this years cup.

  • Purple Moon - with veteran jockey Damien Oliver on board has a very strong chance.
  • Zipping - has decent wet weather form and has been looking in nice touch of late
  • Mahler - with the bottom weight and a decent barrier, as well as a slow track win
  • Sirmione - you can never underestimate Bart Cummings, could win the double like Rogan Josh

US Masters Golf Betting

Professional golf’s first major of the season, the 70th U.S. Masters tees off at Augusta National Golf Course on Thursday (US time). Most of the pre-Masters publicity has centered on the decision to lengthen the course to 7445 yards; that’s 520 yards longer than when Tiger Woods won his first Masters titles. A total of 155 yards has been added to six different holes, most notably the par-three fourth.

Golfing great, Jack Nicklaus has been vocal about his dislike of what has occurred at the Masters. Nicklaus believes that the course now only favors long-ball hitters and the realistic number of contenders has dipped to six or seven. Can Tiger hold off Phil Mickelson to win his 5th US Masters?

Golden Slipper Carnival Underway at Rosehill Saturday

The racing spotlight falls on Rosehill tomorrow when the STC Golden Slipper carnival gets underway with the running of six Group races including the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic for fillies and mares and the $400,000 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes. The Golden Slipper picture will also become a little clearer with Magic Millions winner Mirror Mirror stepping out in the $300,000 Group 2 Reisling Stakes (Race 3). She will have to contend with the David Hayes trained race favourite Miss Finland as she chases a birth in the $3 million Golden Slipper. Miss Finland is currently 8.50 in the Golden Slipper Future betting on IAS Bet, while Mirror Mirror is 10.00.

Derby hopefuls line up in the fourth on the card, the $140,000 Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes. The Greg Eurell trained Cadbury Guineas winner Apache Cat looms as the one to beat. Track conditions look set to suit as he takes on Racing To Win, the unbeaten Octagonal gelding Wasp and the Kiwi invader Darci Brahma in yet another great betting race.

The 400,000 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes is another great betting affair with AJC Derby winner Eremein stepping up to a suitable trip. IAS Bet has Eremein as the 3.00 race favorite in the 6th race on the Rosehill card. Victorian visitor Our Smoking Joe comes right into this as second favourite (opening at 4.50 on IAS bet), with his wet track form simply sensational.

The Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic for fillies and mares (Race 7) sees smart youngsters Mnemosyne and Regal Cheer clash again. Overnight rain has the track rating at a slow 6, giving Anthony Cummings hope of securing a start with the first emergency Ballybleue.

It should be another good weekend of racing, I think I’ll be backing Mnemosyne for a win, currently paying fixed price odds of $5 on IAS Bet.

The 2006 Interdominion Carnival gets underway in Hobart on Sunday with Queenslander Blacks A Fake the early IASbet favourite to take out the series. Terrific value for the Miracle Mile winner Johnny Be Good who has compiled the best record in Australasia over the past 12 months while outsider Camlach looks best of the lucky long shots.

Fixed Price Odds for the 2006 Blue Diamond Stakes

There are some nice odds to be had on IAS Bet on the AAMI 2006 Blue Diamond Stakes, 1200m sprint. Due Sasso is the current favourite, paying $6. Close behind are Wonderful World and Miss Finland at $7. Then Satin Robes and Nediym’s Glow below the $10 mark. Snort, My Only Hope, Personify and Nadeem all have good value at less than $20.

With a few exceptions, these are much better odds than the TAB are offering, but remember - IASBet offers SuperPrice, which will gurantee you a higher dividend than the tote!
